Recent Aerolith Changes

July 11, 2011 @ 11:32 p.m.

  • User profiles. Click your name (with the little wrench tool at the top). You can select a default lexicon and edit your publicly-viewable profile. Click Save to take effect.
  • Uploading and managing saved lists should be considerably less painful now, let me know if it's not clear... upload list button has been moved into saved lists section.
  • Using JQueryUI now (nice blue theme with buttons/tabs/etc)
  • "Named" lists, such as 1-1000 7s, JQXZ 5s, etc. Should save some time searching common ranges.
  • Increased time for some challenges slightly to make it a bit less of a typing contest. Mostly the shorter word challenges. Also all tabs share a lexicon and time (minutes) selection. Except the time is unchangeable for challenges.

I like the blue!

I'm glad you've implemented default lexicons - I'm probably going to use the site regularly now I don't have to be OWL2. Last time I came here about a year ago I couldn't figure out how to be CSW at all.

The named lists do include CSW only alphagrams (such as CH) if the default is set to CSW, so the description is not quite accurate :)

Finally, do you have any plans to update to include the CSW12 lexicon?

cesar (July 13, 2011 @ 10:38 p.m.)

hi rick, if the default is set to CSW, then CSW-only alphagrams (not in OWL2) should be stuff like CH -- what do you mean by not accurate?

when will the CSW12 lexicon take effect - anyone know?

jasminqueen (July 13, 2011 @ 11:05 p.m.)

'12.

I had assumed January 1, but the WESPA website just says "for adoption by local player associations early in 2012."

rickblakeway (July 14, 2011 @ 10:18 a.m.)

hi cesar - I only mean the description of the number of alphagrams is not accurate if you are doing CSW. It's not important, except someone might assume it is OWL2 from the number of alphagrams.

There will be a vote at the ABSP AGM at the end of August on adoption of the new lexicon from 1st Jan for the UK. It should be a formality.

Still enjoying the site. Thanks for your work.

Hi Cesar -

Just exploring the new Aerolith, and it's awesome! I have one question/quibble: when working on long lists (like CSW 7s not in OWL - 8000 words or so) is there any way to replay the missed words before finishing all 8000? By the time I get to the end of 8000 words 50 at a time, I won't remember too many of the words I missed on 1-50. I love being able to replay the missed words on the challenges, hope there may be a way to do the same on the saved lists.

If I can do it, I will gladly cough up my $20 yearly fee. I might anyway :)

cesar (July 14, 2011 @ 1:02 p.m.)

Hi reynard, let me think about how to implement that. You can upload separate smaller lists using Zyzzyva to generate them but I can think about making it so you can split up the lists internally...

cesar (July 14, 2011 @ 1:07 p.m.)

rick, so for example i see:

CSW07 twos not in OWL2 - 22 total alphagrams. That means there are 22 alphagrams that contain CSW-only words. Some of these might contain a OWL2 word as well (like EA# would have AE be the alphagram, and you'd have to guess AE and EA#). Does that make sense?

I'll add CSW12 soon. The only issue I can think of is that any CSW07 saved lists won't transfer over (or will be difficult to)

drbong (July 14, 2011 @ 3:15 p.m.)

Hi Cesar,

Would you be any chance be able to add numbered lists of "The Nines" to the named lists, the same way you've done for sevens and eights?

Thank you, Doctor Bong

rickblakeway (July 16, 2011 @ 10:02 a.m.)

Cesar,

I'd actually noticed the 2s, which says 92 alphagrams, but when logged in as CSw07 includes all those alphagrams as well, such as CH, so is actually 114 alphagrams. As I said, it's not important at all.

cesar (July 16, 2011 @ 11:43 a.m.)

I'm still not sure exactly what you mean. It's probably not that important but I just want to make sure I don't have some weird bug. There are 92 2-letter CSW07 alphagrams (and a total of 124 words), that is correct. So the named lists show:

  • The Twos - 92 total alphagrams (correct)
  • CSW07 Twos not in OWL2 - 22 total alphagrams.

These latter 22 total alphagrams are a subset of the 92, but contain alphagrams such as CH, UY, GU, etc, and also some like AE that contain EA# for example.

rickblakeway (July 18, 2011 @ 12:51 p.m.)

Yes, sorry Cesar. I'll try to remember not to comment about things when I'm working nights.

Tokoloshe (December 18, 2011 @ 1:44 a.m.)

Hi Cesar,

Any news on the CSW12 update yet? It is being adopted everywhere outside of North America from 01/01/2012.

I can send you the full text file of the new word list if that helps.

Stewart
